Unit For Badminton Rackets

Badminton rackets are categorized using several common units of measurement, with different units applying to different parts of the racket.

First is the unit of weight; while the total weight of the racket is typically expressed in grams (g)-usually ranging from 70g to 95g (excluding strings and grip tape)-product specifications often use a "U-rating" system (e.g., 3U, 4U, 5U). Under this system, 3U corresponds to approximately 85–89g, 4U to 80–84g, and 5U to 75–79g; this classification is particularly common in Asian markets.

Next is string tension, measured in pounds (lbs). Higher tension (e.g., 28lbs vs. 20lbs) results in tighter strings and greater control, though it also demands more physical strength from the player.

There are also units related to racket length and grip size. Length is usually measured in centimeters (cm), with the standard being approximately 67.5cm. Grip thickness is indicated by a "G-size" (e.g., G4, G5), where a smaller number signifies a thicker grip. Finally, a more technical parameter is the balance point, measured in millimeters (mm); this indicates the racket's center of gravity, which influences the feel of the swing and the racket's bias toward offensive or defensive play.
